Not all Habitat homes are built from the ground up. Occasionally we are gifted with a house that we can recycle into a forever home for a low-income family. Recently, we received a house in a mobile home park in Sky Valley. While it was in need of TLC, we realized that for a small investment, it would be an ideal home for a couple, or a small family.
After assessing what repairs and updates were needed, we turned to one of our favorite volunteer groups to get the project started: the students from Trinity Western University in Vancouver, BC. Each year, under the leadership of Allan and Sylvia Kotanen, they spend two weeks in the U.S. doing volunteer work. We have been blessed to be one of their stops a number of times and what amazing workers they are. The Kotanens and their student team spend 4 days clearing, landscaping, painting and doing minor repairs inside and outside of the house.
Stay tuned for more updates as we work to turn this house into a Habitat Home.
